The desert willow (Chilopsis linearis) is a small, flowering tree or large shrub native to the Desert Southwest and Mexico. Belonging to the trumpetvine family (Bignoniaceae), it thrives in arid environments, often found along desert streams, sandy washes, and canyons where underground water is present. Despite its name, it is not related to true willows but shares a similar appearance. This deciduous plant produces showy, fragrant pink tubular flowers that attract pollinators and can be encouraged through regular pruning. Fast-growing in its early years, the desert willow is well-suited for drought-tolerant gardens, erosion control, and hedging.
